Salisbury Steak Meatballs with Mushroom Gravy
Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
– 1 lb ground beef
– 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
– 1/4 cup milk
– 1 egg
– 1/2 onion, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste
For the Mushroom Gravy:
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
– 2 cups beef broth
– 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup water
1. Prepare the Meatballs:
– In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.
– Form the mixture into meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter).
– Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the meatballs, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
2. Make the Mushroom Gravy:
– In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and cook until they soften, about 5 minutes.
– Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat. Slowly add the beef broth while stirring, ensuring there are no lumps. Add water and let the gravy simmer until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Combine and Simmer:
– Add the meatballs back into the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Let them simmer in the gravy for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
4. Serve:
– Serve the meatballs with mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
