WOULD YOU EAT THIS TREMENDOUS ITALIAN SAUSAGE WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS FEAST
Ingredients:
4 Italian sausages (mild or hot, based on preference)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 bell peppers (red and yellow), sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Crusty bread or hoagie rolls, for serving
Instructions:
Cook the Sausages:
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10-12 minutes. Remove the sausages from the skillet and set aside.
Sauté the Vegetables:
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
Add Flavors:
Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Stir in the diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper.
Combine and Simmer:
Slice the cooked sausages and return them to the skillet. Stir to combine and let everything simmer together for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
