Ingredients:
2 large onions, cut into 1/4-inch rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup cold sparkling water (or cold beer for extra flavor)
1/2 cup cornstarch
Vegetable oil, for frying
Fresh chives, chopped (optional, for garnish)
For Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the Onions:
Separate the onion slices into rings and set aside.
Make the Batter:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the cold sparkling water (or beer) to the flour mixture, stirring until smooth. The batter should be slightly thick.
Coat the Onion Rings:
Place the cornstarch in a shallow bowl. Dredge each onion ring in the cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
Dip the onion rings into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
Fry the Onion Rings:
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried onion rings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Prepare the Dipping Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Serve:
Arrange the onion rings on a serving plate. Garnish with fresh chives if desired.
Serve hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
Enjoy these Crispy Onion Rings with your favorite dipping sauce for a delightful snack or side dish. They’re perfect for game day, movie night, or any gathering! 😊
