1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp vegetable oil
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1/2 cup milk
4 tbsp unsalted butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
Mash the potatoes with a potato masher. Stir in milk and butter until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
Prepare the Ground Beef and Gravy:
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and pepper.
Simmer the gravy until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed.
Serve:
Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates or bowls.
Top with the ground beef and gravy mixture.
Serve warm and enjoy the comforting dish.
